Meet Kirby, the four-legged dynamo with a heart as big as his wagging tail! Named in homage to a beloved Sunbelt associate. At three years old, he’s already making waves as he undergoes final training to become a Diabetes Assist Dog with Can Do Canines.

Can Do Canines Diabetes Assist Dogs are trained to monitor smells in the air from their human partner for a specific scent related to rapidly dropping or low blood sugar levels. If the dog detects the scent, they “alert” the person with diabetes, usually by touching them in a significant way, such as pawing or nudging them. The handler then knows to check his or her blood sugar level.

With each paw forward, Kirby is not just learning commands, he’s mastering the art of companionship and care. But Kirby isn’t just a pup with a mission; he’s also a bundle of furry joy, always ready to play fetch or cuddle up for a nap.

Kirby is currently in the process of finding his perfect match to fulfill his destiny. So, here’s to Kirby – the canine crusader with a heart of gold and a mission to make the world a brighter, safer place, one wag at a time!
